Camping at Bon Echo Provincial Park - Part 2

Hello,

I hope you are doing well. I've waiting too long to write out these posts so I feel like I'm missing a few pieces, but oh well. It is what it is.

The last post ended with a very cold night and morning. But we survived and had plenty of food and layers to keep us warm.

We then got ready to go for another hike! We headed out for the High Pines Trail, a 1.7 km trail going through forest and wetlands. They classify it as moderate on their site. Again, we let ZoĆ© walk for the first part, but after a while she kept falling and then we fell far behind the rest of the group. So, up on my back she went and we were able to observe all the lovely trees and rocks that were around us. We saw lots of acorns and plants. The trail itself wasn't too bad with some semi-hard climbs here and there.

After that, we had lunch and then even though it was chilly in the shade, we decided to go see the beach area, bringing our swim gear just in case it was warmer in the bright sun. And it was! The kids were able to dig and build in the sand, as well as spend some time in the water.

We had another great supper and enjoyed a nice fire before heading to bed. The next day was our day to pack up and leave this wonderful place. We took most of the morning to get all sites cleared and tidy (leave no trace). Thankfully there was always someone around to entertain the children to help speed up the process.

We then headed out of Bon Echo and stopped at Isobel's Chip Stand for one last super greasy meal before saying goodbye to our family and heading home. The food was unhealthy but great.

We actually ended up meeting some friends in Belleville where the kids were able to stretch their legs and run around the awesome boat-like play structure. We made it home passed their bedtime, so straight to bed they went.

I would highly recommend for people to go check out Bon Echo Provincial Park. They have clean facilities and friendly staff. And of course, the views are amazing. The sites were a bit rocky, but we were still able to stake our tent anyway (with some bent stakes that need replacing now).

I hope you enjoyed reading about our aventure and I hope you will come see where we roam next!

Rachel
